Prevent Tooth Decay and Cavities

Our professional teeth cleaning service is quick and easy. The process of teeth cleaning starts with oral exams that begin with X-rays to look for decay, tumors, bone loss and cysts. This may also also involve tooth position. We then check for gum disease while also checking for tooth decay. The exam is followed by cleaning off any tartar buildup, which can be attached to your teeth over time. Plaque will then be removed from the surface which can go unnoticed and can be detrimental to your oral health. Your cleaning is then concluded with a polish that will have you feeling minty fresh and clean! Book your cleaning online or by giving us a call.

Types of Teeth Cleanings

The prophylactic cleaning is referred to as a “prophy”. It is a routine teeth cleaning that involves removing plaque, and light to moderate levels of calculus (tartar) to prevent gingivitis. Without proper cleaning, this develops into gum swelling and bleeding which leads to periodontitis; the most advanced stage of gum disease. A professional dental cleaning can prevent this and tooth decay.

A full mouth debridement consist of removing large amounts of plaque and calculus which can obstruct the doctor’s ability to conduct an accurate clinical exam. The tartar needs to be removed before completing the exam. If there is excessive bleeding, then the exam needs to be completed in a separate visit. Patients who need this type of cleaning usually only suffer from gingivitis (inflammation of the gum) due to the supra gingival tartar build up.

Scaling and Root planning (or better known as a deep cleaning) is used to treat patients suffering from periodontitis. This kind of tarter build-up under the gums can lead to bone loss if left untreated. It is a cleaning that involves using local anesthesia, and sometimes antibiotics to perform the cleaning. In some cases, this type of cleaning may require an additional visit. A deep cleaning reduces inflammation and infection as well as prevent further bone loss and mobility.
